Mini-me Goals for the Week

12 Jul

What a week! And it’s only Tuesday. This week has been crazy so far, but in a good way, I’m hoping it stays that way through the rest of the week.

Mini-me Goals

I tend to be great at setting long-term goals for myself, but I’m often not so great at establishing mini goals to help support my long-term goals. In an attempt to improve my short-sightedness, I’m going to start making “mini-me goals” at the beginning of every week. I’m hoping this helps me to focus on areas that need improvement (hello core work and foam rolling). We’ll see how it goes for the next couple weeks and if it reaps any sort of benefits, otherwise I’ll be dropping the plan like so much garbage.

Since this is the first week, there’s way too much for me to choose from. A few of the key things I really need to work on:

Do core work religiously. I suck at core work. I always say I’m going to do it and then never do. Also I failed at the 30-day Ab Challenge this weekend, so I’m starting it today. Let me know if you’re in so that I can tweet you and complain about how badly my abs hurt.

Be in bed by 10 every night. I’m pretty good about getting to bed at a reasonable hour, but my sleep schedule has been a little wonky as of late so I’m trying to get back on track.

Start swimming again. I was doing so well there for a while and then I just sort of stopped. I really enjoy swimming and I’d like to get better at it, so it’s time to re-incorporate some swim workouts. For you swimmers out there, if you have any recommendations for swim workouts I’m all ears. At the moment I mostly just get in the pool and swim until I’m tired.

Actually follow the NROLFW plan. I’ve been on and off with this.  Some days I’m great and bring the book with me and stick to the workouts. Other days I totally slack off and just go to the weight room and lift. I need to start following the plan.

Menu plan and grocery shop accordingly. I did the grocery shopping this morning and planned out my eats last night. Now, I have to stick to the plan. Usually, I get lazy and then just make whatever is easiest and least time-consuming. I’m a mean baker, but I’m still mastering the art of cooking and I don’t always enjoy the cooking process. Maybe it’s time to discover the glory of cooking with alcohol.

That’s probably enough for one week. Too many goals and I’ll feel overwhelmed and quit on the spot.

In other news, I’m trying to plan my fall race schedule and I’ve given myself a massive headache. All I feel like doing now is banging my head on my desk repeatedly. Between Ragnar Relay and the Marine Corps Marathon and the necessary taper time in between it’s going to be difficult to fit in many other races. That fact is making me upset. I really love racing and it’s too damn hot in the summer to race. We’ll see how this frustratingly annoying process progresses. I’ll post my racing schedule once I actually have one.

Also, I realize I have now gone three blog posts without posting any ridiculous pictures. This fact is making me very sad. I promise to include some un-necessarily ridiculous photos in tonight’s blog post.

Any exciting races on the fall calendar?

What’s your favorite distance to race?

Fun race: 12/3 hot chocolate 15k at the national harbor. Won’t be hot, won’t interfere with your tapers.

Swim workouts: I like to do 500-200(broken up)-400-300(broken up)-300-400(broken up)-200-500(broken up). The broken up stuff is like 4×50=200 or 2×150=300, etc.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for the swim work-out. Now I’ll have something to do other than splash awkwardly around in the pool.

It seems like the Hot Chocolate race is a popular one so I think I’ll have to follow suit and register. Plus, a race with hot chocolate in the title has got to be good!

I’m doing the Disney Wine & Dine half marathon on October 1st and the Tennessee Ragnar Relay November 4-5. Half marathon is probably my favorite distance. I’ve had 2 out of 3 great experiences at that distance!

I’m running the Disney half in January (my first Disney race!) and the DC Ragnar in September which I am freakishly excited about. Half-marathon is probably my personal favorite as well. The distance is far enough that it’s a challenge, but not so far that you feel like you’re attempting to kill yourself (hello marathon).
